The Rolex/Tudor relationship dates back to 1926 when Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex SA, wanted to create a more affordable alternative. Tudor manufactured Submariners adjacent to the Rolex submariner for many many years. In 1954, the year following the release of the Rolex Submariner, Tudor released their first Submariner as an affordable alternative that didn't lack in quality or craftsmanship yet leveraged a non-inhouse Rolex movement. The Tudor Submariner ref. 79090 uses the ETA cal. 2824-2 "quick set" movement which makes adjusting the on the fly date. This would make a great addition to a growing collection or be a great first piece as it retains the classic and timeless look of the Submariner.

CASE & BRACELET

The strong case displays extremely strong factory finishing throughout, with the factory chamfers present down the lugs. Honest signs of use are present throughout the case. The original bezel insert remains deep black in color with honest signs of light use present and retains its tritium pearl that matches the dial patina nicely. The case back retains its factory markings in very crisp condition and exhibits some tool marks. The watch comes supplied on a NATO strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte black dial is in excellent vintage condition, the only element of age present is a subtle tonal spotting texture that adds to the vintage charm of the watch, however, this age is very nominal in nature. The tritium lume plots have taken on an excellent creamy eggshell patina that features some darker spots as well, under UV light inspection the lume displays no degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and when inspected under UV light the second's hand shows some superficial cracking and is stable, while the minute and hour hands show no degradation.
