Hachimura’s original logo featuring the symbol 八 (hachi in Japanese, meaning “eight”) is engraved on the case back, and the side button at the 8 o’clock position is laser engraved with the hachi symbol, as well. Rui Hachimura Born February 8, 1998 in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from Meisei High School in Miyagi in 2016, Hachimura attended Gonzaga University in the United States. As a member of the Gonzaga University basketball team, he became the first Japanese national to play in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. Hachimura received the 2018-2019 Julius Erving Award, which recognizes the top men’s collegiate small forwards of the year. He made history when he became the first Japanese-born player ever to be chosen in the NBA Draft, going to the Washington Wizards as the ninth overall pick. Hachimura joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2023.
